Football woes

Thursday afternoon was a tough pill to swallow for our football team when they took on St Mark’s Primary Academy in the football league.

Both schools’ fields were out of action, so we headed over to South Norwood Recreation Ground behind our school. Mr Samuels and Mr Xavier painstakingly constructed the goals and got the pitch ready.

The first half of the game was pretty much an even match, with fantastic performances from Rafael and Kingsley. We had several chances to score, but none of them came off. The best chance being Ceren’s fantastic shot, which was, incredibly, saved by the St Mark’s goalkeeper!

The second half was a little trickier, when shortly after the half started, some confusion led to the St Mark’s striker getting an injury to his knee. The referee, Mr Samuels, decided that Heavers were at fault and gave the free kick to St Mark’s.

St Mark’s took a spectacular shot at goal from the free kick and took the lead. Unfortunately, with little time left and even less light, Heavers were unable to bring the game back to a level score, despite some amazing play.

Well done to all of our players, and especially to our Player of the Match, Ceren.

It’s onwards and upwards for our football squad, they’re up again against Cypress Primary on Monday!
