Last week wasn’t all Ofsted and hard work (although we are very grateful for all of our children’s hard work and impeccable behaviour when we had our visitors). Our Year 5 and 6 children also took to Lloyd Park for a spectacular performance in the Croydon School Sports Partnership’s Tag Rugby Qualifiers.

Everything didn’t go to planned as, when our coach failed to arrive, the team were left stranded at Heavers Farm! We managed to get the message over to Selsdon and one of their trusty mini-bus drivers hightailed it over to Heavers Farm to scoop up our players. It was all a bit of a rush and the Heavers team ended up being 40 minutes late!

This lateness didn’t get them down, however, as they arrived and promptly won their first two games. This was enough to get them through to the final two matches of the day, to compete for a precious space in the Croydon Finals. Heavers managed to best their old rivals, Gresham (who beat them last year and won the competition), in the penultimate game and then drew with The Minster Junior School.

It was a nail-biting conclusion as the Heavers Farm squad watched the final game between The Minster and Gresham; if Gresham won or drew, then Heavers would win the qualifier, if The Minster won, Heavers would come second.

Thankfully for Heavers Farm, The Minster only drew with Gresham, and we came out on top!

An absolutely enormous well done to the Heavers Farm squad and to our team captain Frank for leading the team to victory, and a special mention goes to Mr Jackson’s MVP – Kingsley.

The finals are this Friday, 18th November, so let’s all keep our fingers crossed for a big win! And check out the photos and videos below:
