This afternoon an elite team of Year 5 and 6 children went to Thornton Heath Sports Centre for the Sportshall Athletics.
It was an absolutely fantastic event, with loads of different track and field events. Ranging from “speed bounce”, where competitors see how many times they can jump, two-footed over a hurdle in 20 seconds, long and triple-jumps and different throws to various kinds of relay race.
Our team did fantastically well, competing with some really great teams from other schools, and finished third overall. An absolutely commendable result!
My personal highlight was the boys 6×1 relay, where the Heavers boys finished neck and neck with Selsdon Primary in a very tense race! Well done to Selsdon, who managed to pinch the win in that race by about an inch and finish fifth overall.
A special mention goes to Kehinde Salami, who only decided to join the team today and competed fantastically to help get our team to the third place position! And a very happy birthday to Sireish Nankani, a key competitor on our boys team.
Have a look at the slideshow below to see pictures from all of the different events!
