I have just been looking the class blogs and thought I’d share something that Mr. Penrose (the class teacher for Selsdon’s 5P class) put on his blog. He has posted an evolution game on his Games Page that he set up on 5P’s blog here.

… he then linked this to a board game he made for the homework for the Year 5 classes to use this week.

Topic – Out Of Africa – 19/9/1 

5P… I am being blown away by your homework, so much so that I think we’re going to need a bigger ‘homework of the week’ wall

This week we’re basing your homework around our topic ‘Out Of Africa’. Having played my ‘Human Race’ game… I want you to create your own evolution board game! It could be in the style of the one I made or you could invent an entirely new one! Here are some ideas:

• An evolution quiz game – Move around the board and answer questions correctly to win part of a skeleton. When you have a full skeleton you win! Bones could be drawn on small bits of paper or even made out of play dough.
• Sapiens vs Neanderthals  – Divide the countries, or continents, up between players evenly. The aim is to conquer each other’s land to take over the world with your species! Choose a country to invade, roll the dice against each other, whoever rolls highest out of 3 rolls wins… you keep attacking until you lose a roll, then it’s the other player’s turn.

If you create something that works well… we can play it in ‘Golden Time’ on Friday.
