Following the success of ‘Tate South Norwood’ last year we organised another whole school art project. We turned our school into an Art School for three days. On the first day, staff INSET day, all of the staff started the project off. As this was the week leading up to the royal wedding we decided to think about the theme of love. We asked all of the staff and children to bring in an object that represents someone very important to them. This could be any object of their choice.

Everyone brought in a range of different objects from photographs to jewellery to a cooking pan! The object was used as the basis of the art project and everyone had a series of tasks to carry out before making a piece of conceptual art that expressed how they felt about that important person. Everyone was encouraged to look at examples of contemporary, conceptual art and to produce an art work in any media that they chose. The success of the art work was measured in how successful it was in conveying each persons feelings.

The final art works have been put together for an opening exhibition on the evening of Tuesday 3rd May 2011. Everyone’s friends and family are warmly invited.

Hi Shanade, yes of course we will do another whole school art project! Maybe you could come up with some ideas for it. What do you think about everyone going to visit another art gallery? Best wishes. Ms Papas
